Right now, a lot of tutorials and resources for making fursuits are spread across lots of different corners and parts of the internet: various social media websites, Youtube videos, old Livejournal posts, Telegram group chats, etc. A lot of the information is in "walled gardens", AKA platforms that require you to have an account to access the content. It's hard to find information and tutorials, especially if you are like me and do not use a lot of social media aside from Bluesky.
The fursuitmak.ing website aims to be a more centralized community-based hub for fursuit makers, or at the very least, a bridge to these resources. For the first two years of the site's existence, I have been the main contributor to the site's tutorials and I have maintained a list of links to resources created by others. However, I am just one maker who does things in his own way! There are endless ways to make a fursuit. That's why I made this forum, to open up fursuitmak.ing into more than just "my" site. A forum is a great format over social media as it is much more organized and allows for more detailed discussion (no 255 character limits, hooray!).
Planned updates for the site:
- Tighter forum integration with the rest of the site
- Community tutorial integration
- More organization of what needs to get done to help document fursuit making information
- Fur color picker update
- I have not had access to the FTP login for the site that it is currently on for a long long time. I think the last big update it got was in 2024. So many furs have gone in and out of circulation since then and I also want to implement some more features (i.e. "5 closest matches", filter by region, etc) and better coding practices
- More of my own tutorials... there is so much I have learned and so much I want to share!
- Some more housekeeping-focused stuff like a few stickied threads
- Eventual community events once the community becomes more established
- More tools!
