Tail Tutorials

If you are brand new to fursuit making, I recommend starting with a tail! Tails are the simplest part of a fursuit to make, they get you used to working with faux fur, and you can proudly show it off at your next convention or event.

Handpaws are very fun to wear and can be pretty easy to make! They are definitely a step above a tail. Flat, dexterous, glove-like paws are more beginner friendly than puffy paws with shaped digits.

The most important part of the fursuit! The head is the most feature-heavy part of a fursuit, and is probably the most difficult to create. Don't let that deter you, however! Making heads is my personal favorite part of fursuit making, they're super rewarding to finish.

The most fur-intensive part of the entire fursuit! Bodysuits, especially plantigrade bodies, are relatively easy if you have sewing knowledge. They simply take a long time. I'd say they're easier than heads, but more difficult than feetpaws.

When handsewing, I almost exclusively use a blanket stitch and a ladder stitch. However, a backstitch is also a very strong stitch to use. Nothing beats machine sewing, though!

  • Places to Purchase Fur

Remember to always purchase swatches before buying the amount needed for your project! It's better to spend a few extra dollars to make sure you're getting the correct color and quality you're looking for, rather than to end up with yards of fur that you cannot use because the color was different in person, or the quality is less than desired.

If you are new to buying fur, I recommend sticking to retailers that have a proper online storefront. Aliexpress sellers can have very high quality faux fur, but you need to know what you're doing when purchasing from them.
